The birth of Zayunu's Loc n' Braid Hair Jewelry/Jewellery

Hi there Peeps,

As I work a lot with people with locs and also wear my hair in a natural twist style a lot I wanted to adorn my hair with jewelry/jewellery (seeing as I'm a jeweller and all)! But I wanted to be lazy and buy them. Everywhere I looked it was the same thing, either wooden beads or those tacky metal ring thingys that break before you put them in your hair. I wanted somethings different, something that would stand out . After searching I got fed up and decide that I would make my own hair jewellery, hence my Zayunu Loc n' Braid hair jewelry/jewellery was born.

At first they started out like this:

Zayunu's Hair Wraps

Where the hair wrap is coiled around the loc, twist or braid to look like this:

This style was good if you had very thin braids or twist but not if like me you had very thick hair. After twisting the wire around the hair a few times there was also the problem of metal fatigue (A weakening and then breakdown of metal parts caused by constant flexing).

I wanted something a little more durable and longer lasting, so I had to go back to the drawing board to come up with another style of hair adornment for my now very naked twists. I then came up with:

Zayunu's Loc and Braid Cuff

Which were a lot more versatile than the wraps, lasted longer, made big, medium or small and most importantly were FUN to wear. I started to experiment with them, by putting diamantes in them and making ones with drops like this:

Now I make all kinds of different styles, to see some of them go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/zayunubydesign/
